In the Beginning was the Logos!

27 Mar

I am blessed as I contemplate the endless possibilities in seeing the Word of God manifest in my life and of those I love.  Even as I write this article about the “logos” of God, Satan attacks my body in an attempt to distract me from speaking God’s truths.  It is an incredible privilege we share to stand with the Winner on the winning side.  I have taken Proverbs 3:7-8 and allowed it to cut through my soul and spirit.  “Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and turn away from evil.  It will be healing to your body, and refreshment to your bones.”   Standing in Him against the pain is so much more enabling than standing alone!  The Word of God is AMAZING!

In a previous blog I wrote about the “rhema” word of God, “If the Rhema of God is a Sword, Are We Wielding It?”  It speaks of the necessity  to take up the sword of the Spirit, the Word of God, as mentioned in Ephesians 6, using it as a weapon rather than simply a book of comfort to “get us through” hard times.  Rhema words are revealed by Holy Spirit as we hear from God, receive an unction in our spirits, or a truth is magnified from the Word giving us fresh revelation to apply in our lives. It can be a message concerning an event or a word of faith spoken directly “to” a situation which then exposes our need of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.  Rhema words are thought of as “spoken words” from God which command, direct, or charge us to take action.  They are often referred to as “now” words because they “jump out at us” and we can readily apply them to our lives at the present time.

The other translation for “word” in the New Testament is “logos” and people generally think of “written” word in contrast to “spoken” word when they hear logos.  But if you were to look it up in the Greek, you would find definitions like “the act of speaking, the faculty of speech, a kind or style of speaking”, “a word uttered by a living voice”,  “a doctrine or teaching”, “the ability to reason”, “the mental capacity to think, meditate, and calculate”, and the list goes on. Obviously, logos is much more than the written word.  It is the manifestation of the “revealed will of God”.

It is important to understand logos and rhema because it affects how we apply the Word of God to our lives.  If we only identify the logos word as written, we will not effectively apply it, but instead will wait for a rhema word from God in order to move forward.  We must get the revelation the Word of God “logos” is a powerful weapon.  Many people think only the “words within” the Word of God are powerful, but it IS the Word Itself that contains power.  Perhaps this is a better way of differentiating between rhema and logos.  Rhema words are specific words to ignite us in faith to apply God’s Word to our lives.  Logos is the entire Word of God, living and powerful, effective in bringing renewal and transformation.

In John 1:1 Jesus is revealed to us as the “Logos”.  “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Jesus is described here as the essential Word of God!   He is the necessary, basic, and defining requirement in understanding the Rhema.  Knowing in the beginning was the Logos (JESUS), and the Logos (JESUS) was with God and the Logos (JESUS) was God reveals the essential Person with Whom to approach life.  We have the privilege and responsibility to meditate on the Logos (JESUS), smearing His life into every need which arises.

What are we “doing” with the Logos, with Jesus?  Do we receive Him daily as the revealed will of God in our lives?  Jesus IS our ability to reason and think.  He IS our all in all!  Knowing Jesus, gives us the ability to take Logos and walk in power and authority, believing and seeing His will done on earth as it is in heaven.  It also gives new and mighty revelation to Hebrews 4:12 where again “word” is translated “logos”.  “For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than ANY two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”

Friends, if we can grasp the meaning in our spirits of the logos as described in these verses, there is no stopping the Body of Christ here on earth. We negate endless possibilities of miracles if we treat the Bible as a bestseller sitting on our bookshelf.  Or if we view it as a book with only words with no power and authority, or as a collection of historical stories, or if we find it to be dull, irrelevant, and not applicable to our lives.

In this Hebrews verse we are given the character of the logos and its effect on our minds andour ability to think, meditate, and reason.  It is the divine mind of God as revealed to us through His Word, the logos of God.  Because the Word of God is alive, we take the Word and receive it as the “mind of Christ” applying it to every situation in life.

The Word (Logos) of God is living.  This Logos is alive, not dead.  Life breeds life!  Therefore when we meditate on the Word of God, letting its life flow through us, we receive its life into our bodies, minds, souls, and spirits. Because the Logos of God is living, it breathes life into our souls.  Take a moment to breathe in His life through His Logos, the essential, necessary life of Jesus.  Breathe in Jesus!

The Word (Logos) of God is powerful.  The Greek word for powerful is “energes” meaning energized, active, and effective.  This literally means His Word is divinely energized activity producing effective results in our lives.   We spend most of our time involved in activities which bring minimal results to our lives and situations.  Instead we can get energized by picking up the Word of God and apply its divine activity to our circumstances and get the maximum effective results.  Try God’s Word to get energized!

The Word (Logo)s of God is sharper than ANY two-edged sword.  “Any” literally means “Any”.  Nowhere is there anything sharper or more cutting than the Word of God.  It is sharper than everything our minds can conceive and then beyond. The two edges reveal how easily and smoothly the Word penetrates into our beings.  It does not require great effort or exertion for the Logos to “get into” us.  When we grasp and embrace this truth, our lives will be changed.  Let His Word penetrate today!

The Word (Logos) of God pierces even to the division of the soul and spirit.  This describes a dividing line deep within our beings between soul and spirit.  The Word pierces, or comes through, at the most intimate and far reaching place.  This division is necessary in order for us to live by the Spirit of God rather than letting our souls determine how we live.  Sinful habits come from the soul and the Logos of God is able to pierce through our carnal minds to bring understanding from our spirit, pierce rebellion in our will, and slice away enmity towards God in our minds and emotions.  Piercings hurt!  But the outcome is a display of beauty as our spirits touch His Spirit.  Let His Word pierce and divide to display His beauty in your life!

The Word (Logos) of God  pierces to the division of joints and marrow.  This again represents the most secret, close, deep, and intimate place in our beings.  The Word divides the spiritual from the carnal. This gives us the picture of going deeper as the emphasis goes from soul and spirit to joints and marrow.    God’s Word will divide the joint itself and then go even deeper into the inner core of the bones themselves where the marrow is found.   In other words, God goes deeper than deep!  There is no place too far reaching for the Logos to reach!  There is no one too far gone where God cannot find, divide, pierce, and save!  The Logos cuts off the lusts of our flesh and mind by going deep within and dividing.  What a great comfort it is to know His Word will divide.  Today, live boldly and confidently in the fear of the Lord, trusting Him to go deep within and divide whatever is necessary!

The Word ( Logos) of God discerns the thoughts and intents of our hearts.  Once again we witness God’s Word getting to the deepest part of ourselves, into the centre of our beings.  Are you getting the idea He has a plan to reach the deep recesses of who we are and bring forth new life?  He does!  It is through His Word!  The Logos is capable of discerning, in other words, judging, our deepest, most secret, and remote thoughts, intentions, and the designs coming forth from our minds. In Jeremiah 17:9-10 we read our hearts are deceitful above all things, desperately wicked, and we cannot know what is in them.  But the Lord searches our hearts and tests our minds.  Therefore we are to allow the Spirit of God to search our hearts knowing the Logos will discern and then cut away all that is vile and not of God.  He is the One who judges our thoughts and intents and is able to pierce and divide because there will be a day He gives to us according to our ways.   This is a GREAT thing my friends!  Let Him in!

My prayer as I have written this is that we all become energized through a fresh revelation of the living, effective, powerful, Logos of God in our lives.  I am also believing we will take the Word, not just the words, and receive amazing breakthrough and manifestations each day as we revel in the Logos and Rhema of God!
